Monte Canelas
In Algarve, Monte Canelas in the south of Portugal is a very well-known villa about 7 kilometers from Alvor and quite near Lagos and Portimao. This area of the southern coast of Portugal is notorious for the 150 kilometer stretch of fine sandy beaches and over five excellent golf courses. Monte Canelas is only 4 kilometers from the Penina golf course and right on the coast.
And if you travel just a little inland, Monte Canelas has easy access to the Monchique area; A hot water thermal spa area on one side of the Foia Mountain, absolutely relaxing with its pine, banana and oak trees whispering in the soft wind. A nice escape to one of the quaint rural houses when visiting Monte Canelas.
Before coming down off the mountain, let´s have a panoramic intake of the whole Algarve region. To the south you can see the coastal extension, from Faro bordering with Spain on the east to Cape Saint Vicent on the western tip. With the help of a map, you can recognize every city and river, and the villa resort of Monte Canelas among them. To the extreme west is the Vicentine coast with the mountain range called Serra do Espinhaco de Cao. To the north the sight gets lost in the slopes of the plains of the Baixa Alentejo, having a very dry aspect. To the east, white clouds of smoke tell us of the presence of some of the factories which still produce vegetable coal.
Monte Canelas Portugal is very similar to Sintra which has a privileged location near the sea, many accommodation offers such as chalets ( two story villas ), individual or semi-detached bungalows ( all on one floor), apartments with all necessities included and rural houses, all with swimming pools on the premises. All of these lodgings are near shopping areas and great restaurants, almost all offering the delicious fish delicacies so well known in Portugal. The villa itself has a very rustic aspect, maybe even to the point of saying that it has a homespun air about it.
If you are to make your trip complete, from Monte Canelas to Evora, a prosperous city which clearly shows the long stay of the Moors with its winding streets, tiled patios and ceramic flower pots on the terraces. To Lisbon in a rented car and from Lisbon to Sintra. After a few days of sight-seeing, then continue on further north to Obidos.; recognized in the distance as having the shape of a magnificent ship. Portugal and its so varied regions have so much to show and tell us, especially Evora, Obidos, Sintra, Lisbon and Monte Canelas
